The BRU Backup and Restore Utility features data-verified backups, scalability, configurability, and ease of use for Linux and Unix. Versions are available for Linux, FreeBSD, and most UNIX variants. It works via an X11 interface, command line interactive, or through a scripted, scheduled (CRON) mechanism.
Bacula is a set of programs that allow you to manage the backup, recovery, and verification of computer data across a network of different computers. It is based on a client/server architecture and is efficient and relatively easy to use, while offering many advanced storage management features that make it easy to find and recover lost or damaged files.
CDRX is a menu-based Perl script designed to help you use your CDRW with mkisofs and cdrecord to handle ISO creation, CDROM/CDRW device scans and setup, CDRW blanking, and CDRW burns. It is designed to supplant the need for an X-based CD burning utility, to provide features not found in other Unix CD burning programs, and to be easy for beginners to use.
Chiron FS is a FUSE based filesystem that implements replication at the filesystem level like RAID 1 does at the device level. The replicated filesystem may be of any kind you want; the only requisite is that you mount it. There is no need for special configuration files; the setup is as simple as one mount command (or one line in fstab).
Dar is a shell command that makes backup of a directory tree and files. Its features include splitting archives over several files, DVD, CD, ZIP, or floppies, compression, full or differential backups, strong encryption, proper saving and restoration of hard links, extended attributes, file forks, Door inodes, and sparse files, remote backup using pipes and external commands (such as ssh), and rearrangement of the "slices" of an existing archive. It can run commands between slices, before and after saving some defined files or directories (for a proper database backup, for example), and quickly retrieve individual files from differential and full backups. Several external GUIs exist as alternatives to its CLI interface, like kdar, DarGUI, SaraB, etc.
The Enhanced File Crypt/eXtended File Stealth System (EFC/XFSS) makes your uploaded files safe on the server so that no one can read them without knowing a few details to decipher the files. It generates different obfuscated names and encrypted files so no one will know what the original format or name was.
