LZHAM is a general purpose lossless data compression library that borrows many ideas from LZMA, but purposely makes several key tradeoffs that favor decompression speed over compression ratio. LZHAM's compression ratio is typically within .5% of LZMA, but decompresses 2-3 times faster. LZHAM's compressor is heavily threaded in a way that does not sacrifice compression ratio. The decompressor supports streaming and memory to memory decompression, and is designed to be particularly fast on embedded devices, handhelds, and game console platforms.
rstash is a server and client for transferring files over a network into file drop boxes on the server. It is primarily aimed at transferring things such as backup files from one host to another without opening up complete shell accounts, NFS, FTP, or other full file transfer mechanisms. The server has a set of boxes into which the client can put named files in a write-only fashion. No access to any portions of the server's file system outside the configured drop boxes is permitted.
DIASER is a cloud storage class combined geo-data replication, long-term archive system, and WAN vault application. Manage long term mixed data archives generated by existing backup software. Ensure availability using commodity hardware. Retain administrative and financial control. It combines a disk-based backup volume management system and triple redundancy with a storage architecture designed to structure months to years of long term sustainable archiving space. It is a quick and low-cost way to make an environment more robust by backing up data in multiple places. This replication also provides fast retrieval of archived data from all node hosting locations. A Perl installer creates the system. Nodes can be dedicated to storage or used for existing services over unused bandwidth. DIASER works in user space over SSH.
Archery is a script to extract archives intelligently. It always extracts to a single directory or file, whether the archive was prepared that way or not, so you don't have to worry about it making a mess where you are working. It supports external extractors for .arj, .cab, .tar, .ace, .lha, .rar, .7z, and cpio formats.
Spack is a standalone package manager with its own CPIO-based package format but aiming to keep total compatibility with Slackware Linux. Written in POSIX shell as much as it makes sense, it attempts to provide a fairly complete toolkit to build, install, remove, list, retrieve, and arrange your packages. It can be used as an alternative to Slackware's pkgtools, just to independently and properly manage your local software on any distribution, or as the main package manager of the distribution you build yourself.
fs2svn takes a sequence of archive folders (snapshots or historical backups of a project) and makes a new Subversion repository, preserving their revision history. Each top-level folder creates one revision, which is backdated to its most recent file's modification date. Additions, changes, and deletions between one folder and the next are all recorded in the repository, and the efficient diff-based storage saves disk space over the original full or incremental backups.
