novi is a tool for finding the latest-version RPMs in a tree. It can be used to create Kickstart trees or yum repositories that contain the updated RPMS. In the case of Kickstart, this means machines come to life with the updates already applied. Using novi for a yum repository trims the size of the repodata files, which reduces client download and processing time.
Puppet lets you centrally manage every important aspect of your system using a cross-platform specification language that manages all the separate elements normally aggregated in different files, including users, cron jobs, and hosts, along with obviously discrete elements like packages, services, and files. Its simple declarative specification language provides powerful classing abilities for drawing out the similarities between hosts while allowing them to be as specific as necessary, and it handles dependency and prerequisite relationships between objects clearly and explicitly.
mod_athena is an Apache-based application load balancer for large systems. It allows the HTTP server to act as a load balancer either internally to Apache's own mod_proxy (for reverse proxying), or externally to machines querying it. Arbitrary statistics are sent to the engine via a simple GET plus query-string interface, from which it will then make decisions based on chosen algorithms.
WeOCR is a platform for Web-enabled OCR (Optical Character Reader/Recognition) systems. It enables people to use character recognition over networks. A WeOCR server receives document images from users, recognizes text in the images, and returns recognition results to the users. WeOCR does not have its own character recognition engine. Instead, it is intended to accommodate various existing character recognition engines.
LibMySequoia provides an alternative library for MySQL C client library (libmysqlclient.so) to benefit from the Sequoia high availability and performance scalability clustering solution. Native MySQL client programs can use the Sequoia clustering solution without changing any line of code in the application. The benefit of this solution is that native C applications, PHP, Perl, and Python programs using the MySQL C API interface now can transparently connect to a Sequoia cluster.
mod_myvhost is an Apache module for dynamically configured name-based mass virtual hosting with PHP. Virtual host configurations and PHP settings are stored in a MySQL database. There is no need to have every vhost in apache's configuration file, or to restart apache after a configuration change. It is able to change PHP settings dynamically for any vhost. By default, it sets open_basedir as the vhost's rootdir, but you can change almost any parameter that exists in php.ini. For example, you can turn on safe_mode or register_globals for a particular vhost.
Nutch is highly scalable Web searching software which builds on top of Apache Hadoop and Lucene Java. Key features include a Web crawler, indexer, crawl management tools, parsers for HTML, PDF, DOC, and several other document formats, and an expandable architecture that allows you to plug in additional functionality such as document parsers, custom scoring algorithms, custom content parsers, protocols, and more.
