Splunk is an engine for machine data. Use Splunk to collect, index, and harness the fast moving machine data generated by all your applications, servers, and devices: physical, virtual, and in the cloud. Search and analyze all your real-time and historical data from one place. Splunking your machine data lets you troubleshoot problems and investigate security incidents in minutes, not hours or days. Monitor your end-to-end infrastructure to avoid service degradation or outages. Meet compliance mandates at lower cost. Correlate and analyze complex events spanning multiple systems. Gain new levels of operational visibility and intelligence for IT and the business.

Socket++ library defines a family of C++ classes that can be used more effectively for using sockets than directly calling the underlying low-level system functions. One distinct advantage of Socket++ is that it has the same interface as that of the iostream so that the users can perform type-safe input/output.

Monit is a utility for managing and monitoring processes, programs, files, directories, and devices on a Unix system. It conducts automatic maintenance and repair and can execute meaningful causal actions in error situations. It can be used to monitor files, directories, and devices for changes, such as timestamps changes, checksum changes, or size changes. It is controlled via an easy to configure control file based on a free-format, token-oriented syntax. It logs to syslog or to its own log file and notifies users about error conditions via customizable alert messages. It can perform various TCP/IP network checks, protocol checks, and can utilize SSL for such checks. It provides an HTTP(S) interface for access.

LPAR2RRD makes historical, future trends and nearly "realtime" CPU utilization graphs of LPARs and shared CPU usage of IBM Power servers. It collects complete physical and logical configuration of all servers/LPARs. It is agent-less (it gets everything from the HMC/SDMC or IVM). It supports all kinds of logical partitions (AIX/AS400/Linux/VIOS).

STOR2RRD creates historical utilization graphs of monitored storages. It gets data via the storage API (DSCLI for IBM DS8000). It collects and presents complete logical configuration of all storages. It graphically presents IO, data throughput, and response times for all Ports, Pools, Ranks, and Volumes.

Socat is a relay for bidirectional data transfer between two independent data channels. Each of these data channels may be a file, pipe, device (terminal or modem, etc.), socket (Unix, IP4, IP6 - raw, UDP, TCP), SSL, a client for SOCKS4, or proxy CONNECT. It supports broadcasts and multicasts, abstract Unix sockets, Linux tun/tap, GNU readline, and PTYs. It provides forking, logging, and dumping and different modes for interprocess communication. Many options are available for tuning socat and its channels. Socat can be used, for example, as a TCP relay (one-shot or daemon), as a daemon-based socksifier, as a shell interface to Unix sockets, as an IP6 relay, or for redirecting TCP-oriented programs to a serial line.

fio is an I/O tool meant to be used both for benchmark and stress/hardware verification. It has support for 13 different types of I/O engines (sync, mmap, libaio, posixaio, SG v3, splice, null, network, syslet, guasi, solarisaio, and more), I/O priorities (for newer Linux kernels), rate I/O, forked or threaded jobs, and much more. It can work on block devices as well as files. fio accepts job descriptions in a simple-to-understand text format. Several example job files are included. fio displays all sorts of I/O performance information, including complete IO latencies and percentiles. Fio is in wide use in many places, for both benchmarking, QA, and verification purposes. It supports Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OS X, OpenSolaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Windows.

nxlog is a modular, multi-threaded, high-performance log management solution with multi-platform support. In concept, it is similar to syslog-ng or rsyslog, but is not limited to Unix/syslog only. It can collect logs from files in various formats, receive logs from the network remotely over UDP, TCP, or TLS/SSL on all supported platforms. It supports platform-specific sources such as the Windows Eventlog, Linux kernel logs, Android device logs, local syslog, etc. Writing and reading logs to/from databases is also supported for many database servers. The collected logs can be stored into files, databases, or forwarded to a remote log server using various protocols. The old BSD Syslog and the newer IETF syslog standard (RFC 3164 and RFC 5424-5426) are fully supported by nxlog in addition to XML, JSON, CSV, GELF, and other custom formats. A key concept in nxlog is to be able to handle and preserve structured logs so there is no need to convert everything to syslog and then parse these logs again at the other side. It has powerful message filtering, log rewrite, and conversion capabilities. Using a lightweight, modular, and multi-threaded architecture which can scale, nxlog can process hundreds of thousands of events per second.
