3dom stands for 3-Dimensional Object Modeler. The aim of 3dom is to offer a tool to model reality with user-chosen accuracy, and user-chosen inclination for a particular purpose, which can be gradually improved and extended. 3dom is designed to be a general-purpose modeler, however it is especially inclined to model scenes for Global Illumination purposes.
The Free Animation and Modeling Project (or FAMP), is a project to create a full-featured 3-Dimensional Modeling and Animation System. FAMP shall include support for animation, animated modeling. FAMP already includes the ability to extend easily without modifying code thanks to a plug-in architecture.
K-3D is a 3D modeling, animation, and rendering system for GNU/Linux & Win32. Features include creation and editing of geometry in multiple realtime OpenGL solid, shaded, and texture-mapped views; unlimited undos and redos; complete extensibility at runtime through third-party plugins; animated procedural geometric effects; all parameters animatable through a consistent control-spline based interface; rendering pipeline to Renderman Interface compliant rendering engines; optimization for use with the Aqsis rendering engine, which features solid modelling, true displacement, and user programmable shaders; and support for background and batch rendering.
LeoCAD is a CAD application that uses plastic building bricks similar to those found in many toys. This is the Linux port of the original MS Windows version; it uses OpenGL for the graphics and allows the creation of very large/complex models with a library of over 1500 different parts.
MagicLight is a 3D modeler, animation system, and renderer. It supports animation, nurbs, free-form deformations, 3D text, and lots of other features. Most of the code is in Java. JOGL is used for 3D display, an internal zbuffer renderer generates high quality images, and an XML format is used for scene descriptions. MagicLight II is a complete redesign of the old version, changing the implementation from C++ to Java.
MindsEye is a project to develop a freely (in terms of the GPL) available 3d modeling program for Linux. It features a modular design, Multi-scene/user concept, Kernel-system view instead of Modeler-system view, Object oriented modelling design, and network support in a MindsEye-kernel way.
