Hi. I'm glad you find ZoltanPlayer useful.
The only way ZoltanPlayer communicates with external players as mpg123 is calling, killing or stopping them, as there is no other portable way of doing it. The only behaviour it expects from the players are to automatically exit when the song ends, and to correctly honour SIGTERM, SIGSTOP and SIGCONT signals. This is why it starts a new instance of mpg123 for each song commanded to play, and why it opens xmms but loses control over it, as xmms never exits but by user intervention.
Special support for xmms remote control wasn't in my plans, but I can consider it.
I just played with Zoltan a bit and this is a nice start. I couldn't really get it to run completely fine though.
for some reason, zoltan didn't like to communicate with my install of mpg123 ... it kept starting new instances of mpg123.
anyway, after changing the player to xmms it did indeed play the tracks I selected, but it did not go any further than the selected track. I had to manually select the next track to play, which is of course not really that useful.
but this is a nice start for a very useful app!
maybe in the future, support for existing xmms instances with filled playlists could be added?
