Yeahconsole puts an xterm or rxvt-unicode window on top of your screen that behaves like the console found in many games (similar to kuake). Its visibility can be toggled by a keyboard shortcut.

This *rocks*
Great! Does not re-invent the wheel -- it uses xterm for the actual terminal (rendered "--into" the yeahconsole window), so if you spent a lot of time configuring xterm to your taste, this will feel just like home. Took only a few seconds to install, and it delivers exactly what it promises.
This will be in my .xsession for years to come!
