FileManager, as shipped, does not support apache-ssl. FileManager uses "user switching" to ensure security and must run as a root process. Apache typically does not allow root processes.

ssl server
does this support running under apache instead of its own server? I already have a nice apache-ssl configuration.

What OS/Version are you using? What version of Perl are you using? Binary uploads work fine on all tested platforms. For direct support send an email to fm@horsburgh.com.

Works
Meets my needs as well, but it is too bad it doesn't support Mozilla better (the context menu doesn't work correctly.) It'll work nicely enough for now though, as our customers use IE, and I just use ssh. Thank you Mr. Horsburgh, for saving me hours doing it myself. :)

The README file contains the instructions on creating a new SSL certificate.

Follow symbolic link across file system
This is an excellent software.

Few wishes:

1. Nav following a link across file system is allowed for jailed users;

2. Sometimes clicking on a file / dir is mis-aligned, i.e. wrong file is targeted for menu actions;

3. Performance improvement in multiple user environment could benefit users;

4. How do I update SSL certificate information?

Thanks.

Re: Root?

> Why does this package require root?

Three reasons:
1. The user-switching mechanism requires the server to run as root (bypassing the need for routines such as suexec).
2. To allow additional access to "root" level commands by authorized users (this can be disabled).
3. And initially, to install the package in /usr/local.

You can install FileManager as a user (and not root) IF you want it to run in single-user mode.

Root?
Why does this package require root?
