Visualization Toolkit

The Visualization ToolKit (VTK) is an object oriented software system for 3D computer graphics, image processing, and visualization. VTK includes a textbook, a C++ class library, and several interpreted interface layers including Tcl/Tk, Java, and Python. VTK supports a wide variety of visualization algorithms including scalar, vector, tensor, texture, and volumetric methods. It also supports advanced modeling techniques like implicit modeling, polygon reduction, mesh smoothing, cutting, contouring, and Delaunay triangulation. Moreover, dozens of imaging algorithms have been integrated into the system. This allows mixing 2D imaging / 3D graphics algorithms and data.

    Release Notes: Additions include chemical structure visualization code, new 2D chart and plot features in VTK, a new set of image rendering classes, and updates to the LSDyna reader. Additionally, there is a new crop of NetCDF readers, and VTK now has true support for netcdf4 readers. Also added is support for new compilers, such as Visual Studio 2011 and Clang. There are a number of bugfixes and code speedups.

          Release Notes: This release has an Infovis kit and a Views kit, a new Widgets architecture, improvements to PLY file support, and extended C++ API and C++ tests. There are many bugfixes, including much improved Java wrapping support. Support for the Mac OS X 10.5 SDK has been added. There is initial support for Resolution Independence in OS X 10.5.
