vphotoalb

vphotoalb is a PHP-based Web application to display photos organized into collections. It supports dynamic captioning of photos by visitors, user preferences (keyed by cookie), creation of custom photos for visitors, and the display of mini-movies (animated GIF files).

Release Notes: This release contains new documentation for the administrator, a translation to French, improvements to make it easier to translate to other languages, better handling of the photo type preference, and should work with "register globals = off" in php.ini. "best position" now works when creating/updating the table of contents.

Release Notes: This is the first release of what will eventually become version 2. It has no more frames, uses stylesheets, has support for multiple languages, the administration interface is integrated with main album, more configuration is possible through the web interface, there are no more restrictions on directory names, you can track people who appear in the photos, can add arbitrary set of keywords to each photo, can search based on keyword, person, or photo type, you have more control over users and cookies (can set user restrictions), and there are more statistics on photo album usage. This version requires PHP4 and PostgreSQL 7.

    Release Notes: There is a new page to make database table setup/update easier. Categories are now easier to set when adding toc entries. A 'Next Photo' link was added to the photo page. Blank captions can be edited by admin. Several bugfixes, and more documentation were added.

      Release Notes: Visitors can now customize the table of contents, password security can now be handled by the photo album (and bypassed with a valid cookie), offline mode (static snapshot mode) now works, and a bug affecting some browsers has been fixed.

        Great, but...
        This works great once you set it up. There is a severe lack of documentation, though. Once you figure it out it's the greatest thing since sliced cheese!

        NOTE: The scripts that are included work well enough, but what isn't obvious is the need for kdc2jpeg which is part of kdc2tiff (even if you don't use .kdc files). This seems to be a utility also created by the author of vphotoalb. Find it at:
        kdc2tiff.sourceforge.net (kdc2tiff.sourceforge.net).
