Vocab Builder is a collection of two separate programs. The client is the testing application that uses a drill-style method of building your vocabulary in a foreign language, similar to using flash-cards. The editor allows you to create a new, or modify an existing, database for your own personal use. Since the design of the project allows a user to create their own databases/tests, they can not only focus on the words they want/need to learn, but also are not restricted by availability of choice. No more are you restricted by only the databases available to you. Many language teaching applications only allow you to learn the languages they've supplied you. Most North American-based programs cater to English speaking users and only give you a selection of other languages to choose from. Not only can Vocab Builder use any language combination of Native and Secondary languages but it's also open-ended. You can share your tests with others. You can expand the database of words in any direction you want. Word lists are meant to be broken down into categories like colors, sizes, numbers, etc.

Vocab Builder development has slowed considerably but the project is not dead. There should be a release in the coming weeks which should address a...
Release Notes: This is the first stable release. Updates include User Interface improvements and many bugfixes. Windows users will likely see the biggest difference. The client sports a new banner that uses the new color palette. The Web site has been updated with a more complete changelog in addition to several other improvements.
Release Notes: This is mainly a bugfix release. It is intended to be a release candidate for the pending 1.0 release. It fixes a bug introduced in 0.9.26 where the client wouldn't show more than a single word before stopping the test. This release also fixes a long outstanding bug where incorrectly guessed words were repeated immediately when 'repeat incorrect' was enabled. Many other minor issues were fixed as well.
Release Notes: Both the Client and Editor have received some cosmetic changes. Some buttons missing images should now have icons. Entering and changing entries in the Editor should be faster now. You now only need to use the keyboard, no mouse, to interact with the database. As a side effect, you must use the new entry dialogs for changing entries and category names. The Editor also has a status bar now, displaying the total number of entries and categories in the database. There are some known issues introduced which will be fixed by the 1.0 release, and many more improvements to come.
Release Notes: Duplicate entries can now be entered, allowing for multiple translations of a single word. A scrollbar will now be displayed when more categories than can be shown in the client's preferences window exist for a particular database. Users can now choose to go between any two character sets, even if they are the same language. The client's preferences window now handles character sets differently, making it more clear which character set is displayed vs. entered. The names of a few labels were changed to be more descriptive. There were many bugfixes and other improvements.
Release Notes: A new "accuracy" metric was added to the statistic dialog (client). A compilation bug on Windows was fixed. A bug where category row wasn't shown properly in entry window (editor) was fixed. The way that personal settings are removed on Windows was changed. A spelling error in the English/French example database was fixed. Many source code cleanup and improvements were done.
