Release Notes: A modern 64-bit CPU is now required. Virtual hardware was improved, with better support for Unity and multiple monitors, support for up to 64GB of memory, an HD Audio device for Windows guests, USB 3.0 support through a new virtual xHCI USB controller (for Linux guests only), and sharing of Bluetooth devices with Windows guests.

Release Notes: A modern 64-bit CPU is now required. Virtual hardware improvements include support for 64 GB of virtual memory, multi-monitor support, an HD audio device, USB 3.0, Bluetooth devices shared with the host, and Virtual Intel VT-X/EPT or AMD-V/RVI CPU features. The GUI was enhanced. Virtual machines can now be shared with remote users, including AutoStart. Various other improvements were made.

ESX 4.0 can now run as a guest OS. Virtual printing was introduced. VMs can now be secured with with AES256 encryption, and can be instantaneously paused. ALSA is now supported on Linux hosts. Virtual Disks can now be expanded and compacted. Drag and drop support was enhanced. Configuration of Virtual Networks is eased through a new editor, and IPv6 support was added. Virtual Disks can now be mounted using FUSE under Linux.

Release Notes: This release introduces Unity View (integrating guest applications with the host), an installer bundle for Linux hosts providing a graphical UI wizard, and accelerated 3D graphics (DirectX 9 accelerated graphics with shaders up through Shader Model 2.0) on Windows XP guests. Operating system support was expanded. Several other enhancements and performance improvements were made.

Release Notes: This major release introduces VI Web Access, VMware remote console, USB 2.0 device support, increased RAM support (8GB instead of 3.6GB per virtual machine), improved 64-bit guest support, native 64-bit host support on Linux, quiesced backups of virtual machines, a VMCI Sockets interface, and hot add and remove for SCSI hard disks.

Accelerated 3D graphics are now available on Windows XP guests, supporting DirectX 9 up through Shader Model 2.0. VM record and replay was enhanced. The virtual hardware was updated for hot-plugging, to add LSI Logic SAS adapters, and for 3D graphics.
