vile is a text editor which is extremely compatible with vi. It has extended capabilities in many areas, including multi-file editing and viewing, mouse support, infinite undo, additional operators, and rectangular operations. Vile has an optional Perl interface for UNIX and NT. It can also be built as "xvile", which is fully X-aware, or "winvile" for Win32, with scrollbars, menus, etc.

      Release Notes: This is a stability release. It has mostly bugfixes, with relatively few new features over 9.6.

        Release Notes: Basic multiplatform support for Unicode was added. Vi-style modelines were implemented. Many other new features and fixes were made.

          Release Notes: Dynamically loadable syntax filters were added. Locale support was improved. Many bugfixes were made.

            Release Notes: Bugfixes were made, the code was modified to trap subtle bugs, and test-drivers were written for some modules. Several new syntax filters and better locale support are also included.
