    Release Notes: Ubuntu 13.04 is the newest release of Ubuntu, released on April 25, 2013. On the desktop, performance on lightweight systems was a core focus for this cycle, and 13.04 delivers significantly faster response times in casual use, and a reduced memory footprint. Key desktop updates are: Unity 7, Upstart 1.8, LibreOffice 4.0, CUPS 1.6.2 and cups-filters 1.0.34, and Python 3.3. On the server, there are many new features, including OpenStack Grizzly, updates to Juju, VMWare integration, Ceph 0.56.4, and MongoDB 2.2.4. All versions use Linux kernel 3.8.8.

      Release Notes: This release includes the 2.6.28-6.17 kernel, which is based on 2.6.28.2. An option for installing on the new ext4 file system was added.

            Release Notes: This release includes GNOME 2.24, X.Org 7.4, Linux kernel 2.6.27, encrypted private directories, guest sessions, Network Manager 0.7, Samba 3.2, the PAM authentication framework, the Totem BBC plugin, and server virtualization. Ubuntu can be used as a Xen guest. JeOS is now an option in the server installer. Notable inclusions in the main repository are Sun's Java OpenJDK 1.6, Apache's Tomcat 6, ClamAV, and SpamAssassin. A boot degraded RAID setting was added.

                      Release Notes: This release adds simple and fast installation, live CDs for Intel x86, AMD64, and PPC, GNOME 2.10.1, Firefox 1.0.2, Evolution 2.2.1.1, OpenOffice.org 1.1.3, and X.org 6.8.2. X autodetection and laptop screen detection have had considerable updates based on community participation. The binary drivers from ATI and Nvidia are available and can be installed easily, though the system will use Open Source drivers by default.
