Release Notes: NetBSD and Windows (Cygwin) support has been added. ATA/ IDE support for Solaris/SPARC has been added. smartd can now run scheduled offline immediate and self-tests. A smartd directive was added to prevent disk spin-up depending upon the power mode (SLEEP, STANDBY, or IDLE). Lots of drives were added to the to knowndrives table. There were various other additions and fixes.
Release Notes: The smartctl '-T verypermissive' option was broken in 5.21 due to a typo. The smartd DEVICESCAN logic for Linux was improved. An experimental Solaris port has been added (SCSI only).
Release Notes: An experimental FreeBSD port has been added, an -F samsung2 flag has been added to correct firmware byte swap (applies to all Samsung drives with a *-23 firmware revision string), and estimated completion time for tests are now printed. Release Notes: Autoconf and Automake were implemented and linux/hdreg.h was eliminated from the code, which should simplify porting to other operating systems. There were also bugfixes and enhancements.

The smartmontools.spec file should restart smartd if it's already running. The smartd timing loop is more efficient.

Release Notes: The printing format for 9,minutes has been modified to read Xh+Ym instead of X h + Y m, so that fields are fixed width. The Attribute 240 "head flying hours" has been added. A bug where smartctl -d scsi didn't work because tryata and tryscsi were reversed has been fixed. It now works on devfs SCSI devices. The manual says that bit 6 of the return value is turned on if errors are found in the smart error log, but this previously wasn't implemented and has been fixed in smartctl.
Release Notes: The smartd.conf Directives and smartctl options have changed; see the man page for details. strerror() is now used to generate system call error messages. In smartd, fflush() all open streams before fork(). The internal handling of checksums was simplified for simpler porting and less code. local time and date are now printed by smartctl -i. A "help" argument has been added to smartctl -v. A -D, --showdirectives option has been added to smartd. An additional Attribute modification option -v 220,temp and -v 9,temp has been added. There are SCSI improvements and fixes.
