Projects / phpTextRender

phpTextRender uses the GD library to render images (JPEG, PNG, GIF) containing text with custom fonts (TTF). It is primarily meant as a supplement to content management systems to create highly customized menus and headers.

    Re: errors and bad practice
Thank you for your comment. I agree that the script was
released in a rush, however, it's an alpha release and I added
to the scripts comments that the status is quite experimental.

Of course I will take your recommendations and critics
seriously and will try to implement them soon.

    Kind Regards,

    errors and bad practice
I realize GD development and use is still somewhat in it's infancy and not many have the experience with it that I have but you should have spent a little more time on this script before releasing it.

There are major problems with the bounding box, the color fill, and the path to fonts could have been easily predefined.

You need to add commenting and instructions to make it useable by the audience you've targetted as they won't have a clue about the full font path requirement on linux as opposed to a relative path requirement only on windows, or the baseline bugs and differences between some so called TTF fonts.

If you're really interested in advancing the art and improving your release, feel free to have a look at some of the free example applications and demos here: http://www.smileygenerator/index.php?t=DL

or contact me at the forum for further GD and scripting assistance. I don't mind assisting other developers with free, noncommercial applications at no cost whenever it's needed.
