PostgreSQL File Finder is an alternative to the locate/updatedb commands found in most Linux environments. It searches the filesystem for all files and directories and stores that information in a PostgreSQL database. It can also collect file lists from other hosts, giving you the opportunity to search for files on several hosts using the same command.

Release Notes: An ignore_directories table for specifying directories to skip in the file collecting search was added. A -v parameter was added to collectfile for extra verbosity. All files are now stored in a temporary table before being inserted into the master table, making it possible to search for files while the database is being updated.
Release Notes: The collectfile program now does a commit for each 10000 inserts, since a severe performance problem was observed on a PostgreSQL after 2 million INSERTs without any COMMIT. A num_files field was also added in the hosts table which contains the number of files collected from each host.
