pam_pwdfile is a PAM module that can be used for the authentication service only, in cases where one wants to use a different set of passwords from those in the main system password database. e.g. to keep mail retrieval passwords separate from user passwords for security reasons. The password file consists of simple username:crypted_password pairs, where crypted_password can be DES or MD5.
