I think this project is a free project, but not open source project. Can't find a way to join in the development team and contribute to this. I think it will be a bit difficult for this project to grow without enough people to attend. I like Xen of virtulization, you can see many people are contributing to this project, it's evolving in high speed. I think the project owner can also learn from Xen project owner.

Perhaps with the new version it is fixed, I have not tried the new version, 2.3 respin, so I cannot comment on this version. I do see that according to Ticket #735 the issue with LDAP, which was the same problem I was having, is fixed now, so like I said with this new version perhaps it is working now.

It's unfortunate you were unable to get up and running with Openfiler. However, many others have found it relatively simple to configure. You do *not* have to hack any slapd configuration to get it working - that's inaccurate. And local authentication uses a local LDAP server - so claiming there's no local authentication does not paint the full picture. A lot of user contributed documentation exists in the community forums and a little patience from individuals without the requisite technical knowledge to get it up and running out of the box would go a long way.

            Very Dissatisfied with this project
I am very dissatisfied with this project. For a project that wants to sell you a $50+ US Administration guide their install does not even produce a functional system at the basic level. I understand that they want to make money, however they need to at least have a functioning base install. There is no local authentication on the base install. To get that to function you have to hack up the slapd config by hand, then if you know LDAP well enough you might get that working. After that there are the work-a-rounds needed for the SMB LDAP integration. There is no basic How To on their site for a basic post install configuration. Sadly Lacking IMHO. I would be more than happy to buy the guide to configure more advanced features, IF the default install worked. I rate this project at 2 Stars as there is a descent web interface. But come on guys, a default working product would be nice.
