Release Notes: In the past year, 20 new programs have been added to the package, doing such things as converting to the image format used by a handheld wireless device to stitching together multiple panoramic photographs of a scene. This version has HTML documentation, with a current version kept on the Internet and local installation optional. It also includes a man-like program for viewing it for people who like the old way. An all new build process makes multi-system installation and distribution easier and reduces installation failures.

Release Notes: There are lots of fixes, enhancements, and additions in the 7 releases over the past 9 months. It now handles the Palm, Nokia, Thinkjet, 411 (Mavica digital camera), and neo formats. There is an automatic configure utility that works in the most common cases. It builds and runs on Windows and Mac OS X in addition to all the other platforms. The Tiff library is no longer included in the package.

Release Notes: Tifftopnm and Pnmtotiff handle 16-bit tiffs. Rawtopgm handles more kinds of input. ppmtolj was added for HP color laser printers (PCL). Ppmchange changes colors specified approximately. Jpegtopnm now recognizes the Adobe variant of Jpeg, and it looks for rgb.txt in the X11R6/lib/X11 directory, where X11 now puts it. Ppmfade and Pnmindex have been extended. Bugfixes were made to Pnmcut, Pnmscale, Ppmspread, and Xpmtoppm.

Release Notes: A fix for a bug from 9.6 that caused pnmcut to cut more than you asked for and anew ability in pnmcut to pad where you ask to cut out more than there is, elimination of gratuitous cropping of all white borders off your images in ppmquantall, ability for sgitopnm to extract more than the first 3 channels from an SGI image, a fix for a dependency in anytopnm from 9.6 on advanced shell features, fixes for some very old bugs in yuvtoppm, ppmtoyuv, and giftopnm, and the preliminary release of a new netpbm format (PAM) that can represent pixels with more information than just red, green, and blue.

Release Notes: New converters pbmtowbmp and wbmptopbm to handle the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) graphics format for mobile phones, enhanced syntax in pnmcut, ppmtobmp handles 24 bit (truecolor) BMPs, functional pstopnm (it no longer depends on csh and some missing programs), the file format now allows multiple images per file, as in a print document or movie (and some of the programs now take advantage of this), and bugfixes for bmptoppm, xwdtopnm. and ppmtompeg.

Release Notes: xwdtopnm was fixed so that it works with 24/32 DirectColor LSBfirst images and generates the right colors with some other DirectColor images. Ppmhist now handles larger maxvals and larger images. Pnmfile now checks the file for the common problem where it is the wrong size. New converters were added for the Interleaf format and Windows icons. A dependency on some 'install' program features was removed so 'make install' works in more environments. An RLE (Utah Raster Toolkit) library is now included.

Release Notes: Proper building of the shared libraries on typical Solaris, SunOS, and NetBSD systems, new converters for JBIG, a highly compressed format for bilevel (bitmap) images, addition of Pnminterp to enlarge an image and interpolate pixels so it doesn't get stairsteppy, Ppmdither now works when the maxval of the input is not 255 and produces output with maxvals other than 255 where appropriate, and Xwdtopnm works with 24 bit truecolor/directcolor xwd dumps.

Release Notes: A fix for a bug in pbmtext handling of unusual characters, almost builds without modification on Solaris, SunOS, Cygwin, new utilities pbmtoppa (HP Winprinters), pbmpage (printer test page), pbmtomda/mdatopbm, and ppmntsc (change colors to those acceptable for ntsc or pal), compression in pbmtolj, and an upgrade of gemtopbm to gemtopnm.
