Release Notes: Significant changes were made to software configuration. GNU autotools is now used to build the library. The tiffset utility can now set any libtiff supported tags. LZW compression is now enabled by default, and an external encoder package is no longer required. A bmp2tiff utility was added for converting Windows BMP files to TIFFs. There were also many bugfixes.

Release Notes: In addition to the usual bugfixes, feature improvements include the tiff2pdf utility, a new color conversion management module with CIE Lab 1976 support, and support for the Orientation tag in the TIFFRGBAImage interface.

Release Notes: A new tag extension mechanism has been implemented, and libtiff can now store any unrecognized tags internally as a "custom tag". Many bugs were fixed, and minor improvements to functionality were made.
