Libao is a cross-platform audio library that allows programs to output audio using a simple API on a wide variety of platforms. It currently supports null output, WAV files, AU files, OSS (Open Sound System, used on Linux and FreeBSD), esd, ALSA, AIX, Sun/NetBSD/OpenBSD, IRIX, and NAS (Network Audio Server).

Recent releases


Release Notes: A new win32 driver has been added. A few fixes and changes have been made in autotools and configuration files. The Pulseaudio plugin replaces polyp in this release.


Release Notes: A new Polypaudio driver (libao-polyp 0.4) has been added. esd_close() is now used in the esd driver. Sample rate tolerance was broadened in the OSS driver for nForce compatibility.
