Release Notes: The primary goals of the 2.1.1 release being more complete documentation and translations, the amount of code changed is quite minimal; only the most critical bugs have been fixed. The rest of the development is currently being done in the branch that will lead to the 2.2 release.

Release Notes: A new theme manager has been added, and many icons have been improved. Semi-transparency (alpha-blending) has been implemented on small images and icons. Pixie, an image viewer/editor, has been added to the Graphics package. KDevelop, a C/C++ integrated development environment, has been added to the core KDE distribution. Konqueror, the KDE 2 file manager, can now be configured to provide thumbnail previews for text and HTML files, and now stores bookmarks using the standard XBEL bookmark format (a new bookmark editor was also added). Auto-proxy configuration has been implemented. KHTML, the HTML widget, now has a special 'transitional mode' which greatly improves its handling of malformed HTML pages. KHTML also has greatly-improved Java support, and has added support for Java security (JDK 1.2 or compatible is now required). The panel (Kicker) now features an external taskbar, support for subpanels which can be separately sized and positioned, an improved external pager (Kasbar), and better support for applets (including support for WindowMaker dock applets). ARts, the KDE 2 multimedia architecture, now offers a control module to configure the sampling rate and output devices, increased performance, improved user interfaces, and a number of additional effects and filters. For developers, a number of classes have been added to the core libraries, including a class for undo/redo support (KCommand) and a class for editing list boxes (KEditListBox).

Release Notes: KDE 2.0 features Konqueror, a full-featured, next-generation Web browswer, file manager, and document viewer. It also ships with the initial release of the KOffice suite. Other new features include a multimedia architecture based on aRts, sophisticated theme support, compliance to Linux desktop standards, the DCOP client-to-client communications protocol, the KIO subsystem for network-transparent non-blocking I/O, the KParts component object model, an XML-based GUI class, and the standards-compliant HTML rendering engine known as KHTML.
Release Notes: KDE 1.1.2 includes the KDE Theme Manager, a new tool enabling users to change their desktop theme ranging from colors and window decorations to icons and sounds, with a few simple mouse clicks. This release includes hundreds of new high quality application and tool bar icons, created by the very active KDE Artists Team, which dramatically enhances the appearance of the desktop, the panel, and various applications. Further changes include; Significant enhancements and bugfixes to the KDE mail client (kmail), new translations (KDE now supports up to 35 languages), improved stability and HTML compatability in the KDE web browser and file manager (kfm), and numerous bugfixes in many other packages.
