ILIAS

ILIAS is a platform for Web-based training. It is being developed at the University of Cologne, in Germany, using PHP and MySQL. It has been available since September 2000 as open software software under the GPL. The system's core is an authoring tool for creating courses. Other main components include personal desktops, a mail system, newsgroups, a group system, and system administration.

          Release Notes: New features include a course management system, an interface to the Java-based chat and whiteboard tool "Babylon", LDAP support, an optional tree-like course overview, and support for VRML and SVG multimedia objects. Italian is now available as a system language.

            Release Notes: New features include XML-based import/export for transferring courses from one ILIAS system to another, a modified multi-language concept which facilitates the creation of new system languages, file exchange within groups, and the integration of arbitrary file formats into courses. New system languages include Norwegian, Swedish, Spanish, and French.

            ILIAS installation in Italy
            Between March and April 2002 two ILIAS are installed in Italy.
            The first at the school De Sterlich Francavilla al Mare (CH)
            The second one on a server of Italian Linux Society for a project that link school using Free Software for technical and didactical collaboration.
