Host Identity Protocol on Linux is an implemetation of the Host Identity Protocol (HIP) and the related architecture. HIP is a proposal to change the TCP/IP stack to securely support mobility and multi-homing. Additionally, it provides for enhanced security and privacy and advanced network concepts, such as moving networks and mobile ad hoc networks. HIP is "cool", which means that as a mobile VPN solution, when your network interfaces go up or down, there is no need to re-establish a secure tunnel.

Release Notes: New kernel version patches and the beet patch 1/2 were accepted to the kernel. The GUI has been improved. OpenDHT support has been rewritten (and it is on by default). Opportunistic support has been rewritten (and it is on by default). The firewall has been improved (and IPv4 support is available but untested). NAT client and server side support (latter one still untested) The mobility code has been rewritten. RPM/DEB packaging were improved. The HOWTO was cleaned up. Base exchange memory leaks were fixed. hipconf support for LD_PRELOAD was added. Some code modularization was done.
Release Notes: The implementation was moved from kernel to user space. Support for the Nokia 770 Linux PDA (ARM) was added.
