Release Notes: The "getconf", "mesg", and "pathchk" utilities have been added. The "tr" utility has been reimplemented based on Unix code such that it is faster in multibyte locales. Fixes have been made for the "ed", "man", "pg", and "printf" commands, as well as for the "man" macros.
Release Notes: The "echo", "false", "kill", "printf", "pwd", "test", and "true" utilities have been added. Bugs have been fixed in "ed" and "mail".
Release Notes: The utilities "bdiff", "bfs", "dircmp", "fmtmsg", "getopt", "mail", "mvdir", and "spell" are now available in versions derived from OpenSolaris code. Both Unix lex and flex can now be used for compilation. Minor bugfixes were made for "xargs" and the POSIX variant of "awk".
Release Notes: The "-p" (print name of surrounding C function) and "-X" (ignore patterns from file) options have been added to "diff". Minor bugs were fixed in "cpio", "df", "ln", "ls", "ps", and "sed".
Release Notes: The tools have been ported to HP-UX. New options were added to "diff": a "-B" option to ignore empty lines as in GNU diff and "-1" and "-2" options to restrict the output of "-N" to files from one directory. In "ps", bugs concerning "-L" output on Linux and the handling of zombie processes on Solaris have been fixed.
Release Notes: "ps" and "priocntl" now support the additional scheduling classes from Con Kolivas" Linux patches. The "-a" option of "cpio" (reset access times) has been fixed to work when used in combination with "-p", and to skip files from which no data has been read. The same was done for the "-t" option of "pax".
Release Notes: It is now possible to compile with dietlibc. grep and pg do not terminate on lines too long to fit in memory anymore. dd closes its output on exit to notify the user about write errors that might be detected at that time. Some fixes for 64-bit architectures and gcc 3.4 were also made.
Release Notes: Preliminary support for the POSIX.1-2001 pax format was added to cpio, pax, and tar. Some enhancements were made to the handling of defective tar archives.
Release Notes: cpio can now read and write Tru64 UNIX 'cpio -e' format archives as well as 'DCL imploded' archive entries in ZIP files. Performance when writing ZIP archives was enhanced. A bug in tar that caused it to fail when writing old (pre-POSIX) archives was also fixed.
Release Notes: 'cpio' and 'tar' can now append to archives located on tape devices if appropriate hardware support is available. 'tar' can now also update blocked archives, and its 'n' modifier has been fixed. 'dd' skips past read errors on seekable files and does not allocate more buffer memory than necessary with the 'bs=' option. A new 'tape' command is available.
