1. Not Open Source but Free Software
2. Not Grub but GNU GRUB (this *is* difference)
3. Both project are that same old (check Wikipedia, GNU GRUB and Grub starts around year 2000)

GRUB originated in 1995 and was adopted by GNU in 1999.
