Release Notes: This is a complete redesign, introducing a digital camera library API that allows any application to provide support for serial and USB digital camera interaction. It comes with a powerful command-line interface and several GUIs (including native ones for both GNOME and KDE). Support is in place for Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, OS/2, and other Un*x variants, and it is extremely portable, allowing a single camera driver to be used on any platform that gPhoto supports.
