GeneSyS aims to define and implement a middleware architecture for generic system monitoring and supervision. It is an Information Society Project (IST-2001-34162) sponsored by the European Commission. It provides a middleware- and agent-based approach for system monitoring and management. It uses WebServices technology (SOAP) for communication between components and XML-based descriptions of monitoring information.

Excellent Java/SOAP-based generic monitoring framework
This project is an excellent generic monitoring framework implemented with Java and SOAP.
It's designed for a professional developer or development team to pick up and re-use when implementing a monitoring system for a specific purpose.
It will be less useful to system administrators who just want to monitor regular networks and server farms, as it is complex and not a packaged application per se.
