FUDforum is a templatable forum with i18n support based on PHP and either MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQLite. It features a user/group management system, a multi-lingual spell checker, both flat and thread message views, a private messaging system with multi-user forwarding capabilities, poll file attachments, and much more. It is an extremely fast and scalable forum that can fulfil the needs of both small and large forum operators.

Release Notes: This stabilization release only includes minor tweaks, fixes, and translation updates. Compiler error messages are now more descriptive. An infinite loop which occurred when MySQL truncated login/alias names with non-UTF8 characters has been fixed. A new translation for Zizaki (diq) is available. Several other smaller issues have been fixed.


Release Notes: This release introduces a new Karma/User Reputation System and better protection against profile spammers. Countless bugs have been fixed, and six new translations have been added for Asturian (ast), Basa Banyumasan (map-bms), Icelandic (is), Maltese (mt), Tamil (ta), and Traditional Chinese (xh-hant).

Release Notes: This release introduces support for static forum pages, global announcements, nested sub-forums, and spider detection. Support was added for the DB2, MS-SQL, and Firebird databases. New languages were added - more than 50 translations are now included. The default templates were updated to HTML5 and formatted to make them easier to read and understand.

That is only the case if the users register under a
different e-mail address then the one they use to post
to the mailing list.

Didn't mean to grumble ...
Lest I be misunderstood, FUDforum is a great piece of software. The support forums are very good and the developers are extremely responsive.

Integrates with mailing list
FUDforum can be used in conjunction with a mailing list, so subscribers can get every message posted to the forum by email as well as post new messages by email.
None of the other forum software I looked at had this capability, which was important to me.
Unfortunately forum members must make two accounts, one for the forum and one for the mailing list since they are two separate entities.

Flexible image attachment showing
You can determine showing or not showing images in your attachement in every post. This feature is my favorite.

Best out of many
I spent 2 days first finding and reading up on all available forum software, then installing phpBB, Invision and FUDforum and testing them out. I found FUDforum to the best because it looks good, has many features built in, it installs easily and upgrades easily. I highly recomend it
