Release Notes: A complete ground-up rewrite, implementation of a "darknet" mode for added security, a friendly installer, and a multitude of other improvements.

Release Notes: The user is no longer required to find other users to connect to, if this is difficult. Many bugs have been fixed, and a lot of work has been done on usability and resource consumption.

Release Notes: This release operates over UDP rather than TCP. It can transparently operate through firewalls. The core architecture and algorithm have been redesigned for simplicity and efficiency. A new and even simpler API allowing the rapid development of third party software that interacts with Freenet has been added.

Release Notes: This release fixes a major vulnerability in the HTML filter.

Release Notes: New features include NIO technology that brings improved performance while using less CPU and system resources. Individual nodes are now more efficient, and the speed and routing of the entire network were significantly improved. Probabilistic caching was implemented, which further improves routing and lets Freenet store and find more data. Some user interface improvements were made. More improvements were made for downloads of large files. The Heisenbug and tons of other bugs were fixed.

Release Notes: Very many changes, rewrites, and bugfixes were made. Almost every part of the software has seen dramatic improvements in speed, stability, and security. This is the first stable release in over 14 months. Those familiar with previous releases should be pleasantly surprised by its speed and stability.

Release Notes: A serious bug which was causing inter-node authentication to occasionally freeze for long periods of time has been fixed. Upgrading is strongly encouraged.

  •  29 Jul 2002 18:36

Release Notes: Yet more work to improve load-balancing, and the experimental introduction of initial first-step random routing, which should improve the network's ability to find even infrequently requested data.

Release Notes: There are a large number of fixes for serious bugs which were causing nodes in the network to become overloaded, dramatically reducing the usefulness of Freenet. These fixes have already caused a dramatic improvement in network performance. This release, once widely deployed will improve things further. The format for versions has changed: 0.4 is the major version, and 482 is the build number (this is incremented every time a significant non-cosmetic change is made). Upgrading is essential for anyone running a build older than 2 weeks (build 480).

Release Notes: Significant improvements in memory and processor usage, improved speed and load-balancing, innumerable bugfixes, both Windows and Linux versions allow convenient upgrading to latest snapshot, detailed status information available via the Web interface, and more.
