fpcbol
fpcbol is a desktop user interface written for children and people who want simplicity and speed. It is designed to be as beautiful and simple as possible. It has no menus, just icons to click. It features parental control for children. It has been tested successfully on Debian, Mandriva, and Gentoo. It works well on computers with low system resources (such as a 500Mhz Pentium). 3D acceleration is necessary for the optional transparency feature.

Release Notes: The latest version of SDL is supported. Themes are now supported, and a new theme was added. A lot of minor bugs were corrected. The file selector was made easier to use. Software can be automatically discovered. Ogg support was added, which requires ogg123. Support for restoring nvidia settings was added.

Release Notes: A lot of bugs were corrected. Support for compiz and metacity was added. You can choose the window manager you want inside of bol just by clicking on the new icon. The install script was improved and tested on Gentoo and Debian. An install_user script was added to install bol for individual users. New effects were added. A Lot of minor changes were made.

Release Notes: You can now easy change the bol theme. The I/O has been improved, and many minor bugs corrected. You will need to download a new set of icons and themes.

Its absolutely... awful.. Ill try to list some of the problems:
1. I dont like scripts touching my root-window
2. xmessage is NOT a good method of communicating, use echo if you must
3. french is a rather marginal language, throw that out of the scripts and make a sepearate french installer if you must.
4. The detection methods are, well.. horrible.
Sooo, howabout you just make a damn Makefile?
