@balamm - You must use 0777. The file must be able to be writeable by any user. You can then change the permission back to whatever you feel comfortable with.
The installer doesn't work in IE or Firefox.
Changed both values for the "writeable" function check to "true" since it wasn't working with SuExec and 0775. That got me to step 2 where the check button fails with a javascript error.
Tried a manual install as well but the installer just won't let go.
