AllWorldIT DBackup is a backup system which creates one archive per directory it backs up. This makes searching through the backup much easier, as you can look for which files you're after in the directory hierarchy. It will only back up directories which have changed, which makes it rsync friendly.

AWIT Dbackup is a very nice, simple tool that I now use on a regular basis on all my systems, personal and professional. I know the developer that made it, and helped tweak some of the points of need for it so it could work with everything relatively current out there as best as possible, as well.
Not bad for a perl script that all you need is backups that can actually restore a system back to it's working self.
