Release Notes: Old changers have been deprecated. There are configuration file changes. The compile-time default --with-changer-device has been removed. There are changes to several of the utility programs.

Release Notes: An application API allows you to easily write wrappers around any backup program (see the 'amanda-applications' man page0. amgtar now uses GNU tar, which is a lot more configurable than the GNUTAR program. amzfs-sendrecv performs backups of a ZFS filesystem with 'zfs send'. The script API now allows you to run scripts before and after the amanda process. amzfs-snapshot takes a snapshot of a ZFS filesystem, which can then be backed up with amgtar.

Release Notes: 'amverify' and 'amverifyrun' have been replaced with the more flexible 'amcheckdump'. 'amcryptsimple' and 'amgpgcrypt', encryption plugins based on GPG, have been added. 'amserverconfig' and 'amaddclient', initial Amanda configuration tools, have been added. There are speedups in 'amrecover find' and starting amrecover. The Device API has a pluggable interface to storage devices supporting tapes, vtapes, RAIT, and Amazon S3. New Perl modules link directly to Amanda to support writing Amanda applications in Perl.

Release Notes: Defects found by Coverity scan and Klocwork K7 analysis tools have been fixed. This release works with GNU tar 1.15.91 and the gtar state file format. Open SSL encryption support Two new authentication methods: bsdtcp and bsdudp. An unlimited number of DLEs on a client with bsdtcp, RSH, and SSH authentication methods. The recovery process amrecover uses Secure API. The amoldrecover command is provided for compatibility with old Amanda releases.

Release Notes: OpenSSL encryption support was added. amrecover now uses a secure API. New authentication protocols were added. The name and location of the configuration file (amanda.conf) can be overridden with the -o option for Amanda commands. Binary path names (spaces in filenames) are now supported for file names in amanda.conf and disklist. Code The code is now clean of warnings detected by lint, and is 64-bit clean. Leaks found by using the valgrind tool were fixed.

Release Notes: Kerberos 4/5 and OpenSSH are now used for communication security and authentication. Symmetric/asymmetric encrytion algorithms (aespipe and gpg encryption) and custom encryption utilities can be used for data security. The ability to add custom compression tools was added. A user can use different compression algorithm for images, binaries, ASCII files, and so on. Dump images may now span multiple media volumes. Automatic tape labeling was implemented.
