Altse Internet Search Engine

ALTSE is an alternative search engine technology. It can index up to a couple million Web pages. Altse does not aim to replace existing search engine technologies such as Google, Yahoo, and so on. Instead, it aims to provide an affordable alternative to index Web pages for small size businesses and organizations.

Release Notes: Bugfixes, added features, and installation improvements. A fully automated news feature has been added that allows building of a news site just by following a dozen specified URLs. All main tools have been improved, and the documentation has been updated. The news feature is demonstrated at the demo site.

Release Notes: Bugfixes. Both indexing and searching performance have improved significantly. Indexing now works with multiple indexes; you may build indexes (f.e. 0,1,2, etc.) that contain selected Web sites. This is a new feature for Altse to be able to build searchable indexes by selecting specified hosts. For example, you can put www.fi and sf.net in same index, or separately. There is no limit to how many Web sites you can put in a single index; in theory, there is also no limit on how many indexes there can be. There are also functional and new image search directory features, as demonstrated on the demo site.

Release Notes: The crawling system was rebuilt to maintain a larger database of crawled Web pages. The indexer can now prioritize items to several priority levels of indexes (database files). This project has its own custom database system, and does not prefer commercial ones. Lots of clean up has been done to the code. HTML/CGI is now much more cleaner. The database has much less corruption.
