Version 1.17 of GNU ddrescue

Avatar

Release Notes: The new options "-l, --logfile-size", and "-w, --ignore-write-errors" have been added. Trimming is now done from both edges of each non-trimmed block. The largest blocks are trimmed first. The largest blocks are now split first until logfile reaches "--logfile-size" entries. Ddrescue now terminates with an error if an unexpected EOF would discard any successfully-read data. Ddrescue now automatically adjusts the logfile to shrinking input devices, like CD-ROMs written in Track-At-Once mode. A bug has been fixed which prevented the status from updating after the system clock had been put back.

Release Notes: Fixes a bug (introduced in 1.18-pre8) that sometimes marked a bad sector as finished when reading backwards. The option "-H, --test-mode" has been added. The default value of the option "-l, --logfile-size" has been increased to 10000. The copying phase is limited to 3 passes. The pass number and direction are shown during the copying phase. A bug has been fixed in the "or" and "xor" operations of ddrescuelog. The option "-P, --compare-as-domain" has been added to ddrescuelog.

Release Notes: If ddrescue is interrupted by a signal, it now terminates by raising the signal received. The algorithm of the copying phase has been changed. It now marks as non-trimmed just the failed blocks, skips beyond them, and tries the skipped areas later in additional passes (before trimming), reversing the direction after each pass. The new method produces better starting points for trimming, which now tries the smallest blocks first. The message "About to copy an unknown number of bytes" is now shown when the size of the input file can't be determined.

Release Notes: Blocks skipped during the copying phase are no longer marked as non-trimmed. They are tried in additional passes (before trimming). This speeds the rescue in case of large errors by avoiding the creation of large non-trimmed areas. "ddrescue.texinfo" has been renamed "ddrescue.texi".

Release Notes: The long name of the option "-r" has been changed to "--retry-passes" to make it clear that ddrescue tries each sector only once per retry pass. The default value of option "-a, --min-read-rate" has been changed to 0 (auto). The effect of option '-O, --reopen-on-error' is now limited to the copying phase, but it also reopens the file on slow reads.
