This can't be acpid's problem - all acpid does is listen for events. I'd take this to acpi-devel and get them the debug info they ask for.

ACPI support for AW
I have an Alienware laptop, with ACPI support, but my battery does not show up as there in /proc/acpi its status is always off-line. Could it be that AW's systems don't conform well, it's the 3.06Ghz desktop/laptop hybrid system, maybe that's it.

There is a kernel patch that is REQUIRED for acpid to work. http://acpid.sourceforge.net has the kernel patch.

acpid probably will not change the fact that your computer goes into suspend mode, it will just let you catch the event in user-space.

If you have questions, contact me directly.

Re: Runs full tilt, eats all CPU time
same thing on my machine: kernel 2.4.9 on redhat 7.1, acpid 0.99.4, 100% cpu usage from start on.
main board is asus p5a, amd k6-300.

my computer is always going into suspended mode, when I'm working on remote terminals, that's why I tried the acpid, but the problem still exists.
does anybody know what I should do?

Would you please contact me privately (thockin@sun.com) so we can figure out what the deal is? You're the only report of this still existing.

Which version? 0.99.1 and up should not do this in any case. Please update and let me know if it still happens.

Runs full tilt, eats all CPU time
Wouldn't recommend "upgrading" to this as it just eats all of my CPU time under Linux 2.4.6 !
