Release Notes: The interface has been updated along with the kernel, Python, and packaging system, which is now txz-based. Due to higher compression, the main release contains much more than previously: OpenOffice and Java, as well as many other applications now fit on a single CD. Pcmanfm and rox have both been modified to seamlessly work with the TXZ package archives as well as the new "Add/Remove Programs" item in the root menu. A new volume control (now in the system tray, and sleeker). A new theme and more complete file type handling.
Release Notes: The Qt4 and KDE4 libraries were updated. K3B and smplayer were updated accordingly. Several other additions and many updates were made. Some programs were moved to CD2 and /extra.
Release Notes: This release includes kernel 22.214.171.124, a couple of new programs, updates and libraries, and /extra packages peeled off from returning CD2. (CD2 is zipped and includes Java runtime, OpenOffice, Pidgin, kernel sources, etc.)
Release Notes: The Linux kernel was upgraded to 126.96.36.199. Autoinstall defaults to using the ext4 filesystem. The regular installer gives the option to use ext3 or reiserfs instead. The kernel is current the Slackware hugesmp, so it is Slackware "stock". A very large number of application and library updates were made, so installing via update/gslapt is not advised. ROX-Filer does not run pinboard anymore. If you switch from netcofig or manual network setup to wicd usage, the rc.inet1.conf automatically gets reset at boot, so you won't get confused or have to change your configuration.
Release Notes: This is primarily a security update. Several major applications have recently undergone security-related updates: Firefox, Samba, Seamonkey, Pidgin, and Thunderbird. PTP camera auto-mounting has been updated as well as wicd. GIMP has been updated twice since the last release. The newer version of the help system now works properly and is on CD2. A couple of other updates were made. The package for WPClipart-7.1 is online and ready to install onto Absolute.
Release Notes: This version is current with the Slack 12.2 release. There are no base installer changes since rc1, but absolute-current in the repository is updated to 3.0.5. Absolute now has a new homepage, an additional repository, and a new forum. FTP on absolutelinux.org also has an /incoming folder to allow user uploads of packages.
Release Notes: Many application and library updates were made. A switch was made from audacious/jripper to xmms/asunder for audio playback and ripping, respectively. Gslapt and slapt-get were preconfigured for the Absolute repository. GIMP 2.6.3 was included with added Script-FUs and brushes from gimphelp.org. ISOs are available for both the installer and CD2 of extra packages.
Release Notes: This release was updated to kernel 188.8.131.52, including recompiles of ndiswrapper, madwifi, and svgalib_helper. There were also several audio/video package updates. Xpdf replaces epdfview due to the latter's fragility because of dependencies.
Release Notes: This release has full UTF-8 support. Wicd (a wired and wireless networking interface) was upgraded to 1.5.4. HPLIP (HP printer tools) are working and gksu was added. The glib and gtk libraries were all recompiled. Firefox is once again built from source using xulrunner, which is included.
Release Notes: Printing libraries have been updated to correct output from OpenOffice 3.0 and AbiWord 2.6.4. Firefox has been updated to a version without XULRunner, and seems to be better behaved.
