Lziprecover is a data recovery tool and decompressor for files in the lzip compressed data format (.lz) able to repair slightly damaged files, recover badly damaged files from two or more copies, extract undamaged members from multi-member files, decompress files, test integrity of files, extract a range of bytes from a file, and list the correct size of multi-member files. Lziprecover is able to recover or decompress files produced by any of the compressors in the lzip family; lzip, plzip, minilzip/lzlib, clzip, and pdlzip. This recovery capability contributes to make the lzip format one of the best options for long-term data archiving.
Release Notes: The new option "-i, --ignore-errors", which in conjunction with "-D" decompresses all the recoverable data in all members of a file without having to split it first, has been added. Option "-l, --list" now accepts more than one file. Decompression time has been reduced by 12%. "--split" now uses as few digits as possible in the names of the files produced, depending on the number of members in the input file. "--split" in verbose mode now shows the names of files being created. The targets "install-as-lzip" and "install-bin" have been added to the Makefile.

GLib is a library containing many useful C routines for things such as trees, hashes, and lists. GLib was previously distributed with the GTK toolkit, but has been split off as of the developers' version 1.1.0.

gzip (GNU zip) is a compression utility designed to be a replacement for 'compress'. Its main advantages over compress are much better compression and freedom from patented algorithms. The GNU Project uses it as the standard compression program for its system.
Release Notes: The "--keep" (-k) option was added to not delete input files, in line with other tools such as xz, lzip, and bzip2. A decompression issue with certain invalid data in the 'pack' format was fixed. An incorrect overwrite when compiled with optimization was fixed. zgrep's handling of multi-digit context options was fixed. zmore now acts more like 'more'.
