Download Website 19 Aug 23:46 pngquant 1.8

Screenshot

pngquant is a batch conversion utility to quantize and dither truecolor PNG images, especially those with a full alpha channel, down to "RGBA-palette" PNGs (i.e., PLTE + tRNS in PNG parlance). Such images are usually two to four times smaller than the full 32-bit versions, and partial transparency is preserved quite nicely. This makes pngquant especially useful both for Web sites and for PlayStation 2 development, where one of the texture formats is RGBA-palette-based (though not PNG-compressed).

Release Notes: This release adds a min/max quality option (the number of colors is automatically adjusted for the desired quality level), a switch of option parsing to getopt_long (a syntax such as -s1 and --ext=ext is supported), significantly-improved performance thanks to custom partial sorting, an optional Cocoa (Mac OS X) image reader for color profile support, 20% reduced memory usage, and remapping improvements for very low numbers of colors.

Release Notes: The embedded dcraw-based camera RAW codec was updated to the latest upstream code release to support many more models and RAW formats. The BMP codec was improved to handle unofficial 48-bit files and round the resolution correctly. Some algorithms have been ported to the newer, better performing pixel iterator. Many more small internal changes, cleanups, and spelling fixes and improvements.

Download Website 19 Aug 23:10 Sanewall 1.1.5

Screenshot

Sanewall is a firewall builder for Linux that uses an elegant language abstracted to just the right level. This makes it powerful and easy to use, audit, and understand. It allows you to create very readable configurations even for complex stateful firewalls. Sanewall can be used for almost any purpose, including control of any number of internal/external/virtual interfaces, control of any combination of routed traffic, setting up DMZ routers and servers, all kinds of NAT, providing strong protection (flooding, spoofing, etc.), transparent caches, source MAC verification, blacklists, and whitelists. Newer versions abstract the differences between IPv4 and IPv6, allowing you to define a common set of rules for both, while permitting specific rules for each as you need. Sanewall is a fork of FireHOL and can make use of existing FireHOL configurations.

Release Notes: Uses flock(1) instead of lockfile(1), since util-linux should be more commonly installed than procmail and it works much better than the built-in function. Fixes IPv4/IPv6 detection for older versions of iptables(8). Many minor improvements and cleanups.

Download Website 19 Aug 10:46 Zutils 1.1

Screenshot

Zutils is a collection of utilities able to deal with any combination of compressed and uncompressed files transparently. If any given file, including standard input, is compressed, its decompressed content is used. Compressed files are decompressed on the fly; no temporary files are created. These utilities are not wrapper scripts but safer and more efficient C++ programs. In particular the "--recursive" option is very efficient in those utilities supporting it. The provided utilities are zcat, zcmp, zdiff, zgrep, ztest, and zupdate. The supported formats are bzip2, gzip, lzip, and xz. The compressor to be used for each format is configurable at runtime.

Avatar

Release Notes: The new options "--bz2", "--gz", "--lz" and "--xz" have been added to all utilities. Zutils now provides the runtime configuration file "zutilsrc", which allows the user change the compressor to be used for each format. The checking of the exit status of compressors has been improved. The use of "decompressed" and "uncompressed" in the documentation has been revised.
