Fimex is a the File Interpolation, Manipulation, and EXtraction library for gridded geospatial data. It converts between different, extensible data formats (currently netcdf, NcML, grib1/2, metgm, wdb, and felt). It enables you to change the projection and interpolation of scalar and vector grids. It makes it possible to subset the gridded data and to extract only parts of the files. For simple usage, Fimex also comes with the command line program fimex.

Release Notes: This release adds better support for grib reading and writing. grib data with several levels per parameter and several horizontal grid specifications are now supported. Interpolation now also accepts several horizontal grid specifications, and interpolation has achived a speedup of approximately 1.3 in most cases. Fimex is now also better parallelized, and the most time-consuming parts are explicitly thread-safe.

Tsung is a distributed load testing tool. It is protocol-independent and can currently be used to stress HTTP, WebDAV, PostgreSQL, MySQL, LDAP, AMQP, and XMPP/Jabber servers. It simulates user behavior using an XML description file, reports many measurements in real time (statistics can be customized with transactions, and graphics generated using gnuplot). For HTTP, it supports 1.0 and 1.1, has a proxy mode to record sessions, supports GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE methods, cookies, and basic/digest authentication. It also has support for SSL, WebSocket, and BOSH.

Release Notes: This release adds a few new features and enhancements (like IPv6 support), and fixes a build problem with Erlang R15B.

Jato is an implementation of the Java virtual machine. It includes a VM and a JIT compiler for the x86 machine architecture and supports the JNI API. Jato uses Boehm GC as its garbage collector and relies on GNU Classpath to provide essential Java APIs.

Release Notes: JRuby and Jython are now supported. VM startup speed has improved by 25% and DaCapo benchmark results have improved across the board. The JIT compiler is now able to optimize code before execution. It has limited support for ARM and PPC32 architectures, and significantly improved support for the x86-64 architecture. The VM now also has a classfile verifier.

Release Notes: An issue related to adding mailboxes that cannot be started and an issue related to saving the responsible and original author flags were fixed. The HTML parsing code was improved. An NPE exception that occurred on a non-existent cross project record was fixed. A SQL statement used for logging the previous responsible and state in the Detail field was modified to fix a problem that may occur in some databases.

Gfarm is a distributed filesystem, generally used for large scale cluster computing. It's implemented in userland, and can be mounted by FUSE. It utilizes locality of a file to access a data node, and supports Globus GSI for Wide Area Network. Users can explicitly control file replica location on Gfarm. Gfarm can be used as an alternative storage system to HDFS for Hadoop, Samba, MPI-IO, and GridFTP. Monitoring via ZABBIX and Ganglia is also supported.

Release Notes: This release fixes a serious problem at gfmd startup. All users of version 2.5.2 are strongly encouraged to upgrade. This release also includes performance improvements for GSI authentication and some other bugfixes. gfarm2fs 1.2.6 is also released, with a fix for a bug with the Gfarm ACL feature. A new package, Gfarm/MPI-IO plugin version 0.0.1, is introduced. This is a ROMIO ADIO for the Gfarm file system, which improves the N-to-1 parallel I/O performance in MPICH2.

Diskless Remote Boot in Linux (DRBL) provides a diskless or systemless environment for client machines. It works on Debian, Mandriva, Red Hat, Fedora, and SuSE. Unlike LTSP, it uses distributed hardware resources and makes it possible for clients to fully access local hardware. It also includes Clonezilla, a partitioning and disk cloning utility similar to Symantec Ghost.

Sar2html is a Web-based front end for performance monitoring. It converts sar binary data to graphical format. Both the command line and Web interface provide the same functionality. HPUX 11.11, 11.23, and 11.31, Redhat 3, 4, 5, and 6, Suse 8, 9, 10, and 11, and Solaris 5.9, 5.10. 5.11 are supported for performance monitoring. The reporting tool runs on Linux only. If you have customers facing performance problems on the operating systems listed above, you may send sar2ascii to collect performance data. Then you may plot performance graphics and generate performance reports in PDF format through sar2html. If you are a systems administrator, you may monitor your systems by accessing them through sar2html. Automatically collecting performance data in a predefined time window will be implemented soon.
