BlackHole is an data de-duplicating network block device that also supports mirroring, snapshots, and support for multiple LUNs using the same data store. It is filesystem agnostic and has been tested with ext2/3/4, NTFS, ReiserFS, and the Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS2). It supports encryption, compression, and multiple storage backends. The hashing scheme used is user configurable. The program exports an NBD device which can be mounted in Linux and GNU/Hurd.

samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It can be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.

Release Notes: A bug with the correlation of entries in monitored log files has been fixed, and a deadtime option has been added to avoid repetitive reports. In verbose mode, the policy under which a directory or file is monitored will be reported now. The update function has been enhanced with an option to update only files listed in a text file, and issues with some compile options have been fixed.

John the Ripper is a fast password cracker, currently available for many flavors of Unix, Windows, DOS, BeOS, and OpenVMS. Its primary purpose is to detect weak Unix passwords. It supports several crypt(3) password hash types commonly found on Unix systems, as well as Windows LM hashes. On top of this, lots of other hashes and ciphers are added in the community-enhanced version (-jumbo), and some are added in John the Ripper Pro.

Release Notes: Support for cracking of encrypted PKZIP archives, Mac OS X 10.7 salted SHA-512 hashes, and DES-based tripcodes has been added. Optional OpenMP parallelization has been added for salted SHA-1 hashes of Mac OS X 10.4-10.6. DIGEST-MD5 cracker has been revised to be usable without requiring source code customizations. Experimental support for dynamically loaded plugins has been added. ".include" directive support and duplicate rule suppression have been added for john.conf. Additional features include compression, encryption, data de-duplication, immutable trees, and snapshotting, which make it especially suitable for online backup and archiving. Solid error detection, error handling, and extensive automated test cases are provided.

Release Notes: This release fixes a typo in 1.1.3 that caused errors when trying to remove any blocks that have been committed to the backend. It improves the accuracy of s3qlstat during active file transfers (but still not 100% accurate). It fixes some theoretical deadlocks. contrib/benchmark.py is now working again, and also takes into account the throughput from userspace to S3QL.

Mail2sh makes it possible to carry out shell commands by email. Email is sent to a particular user on your host and the commands will be carried out if the user and password given matches ones in /etc/passwd. Commands are executed with the user's privileges, and combined with a PGP module ensures a certain level of security for use. Note that the system is not natively encrypted, so use of an encryption mechanism is highly recommended for security reasons.

Release Notes: This release adds a minor change to the management of dependencies in the package for Debian 5 and 6.

Among the many small changes are image displays in previews, negative directory filtering, additional entries in popup menus, searches anchored to the beginning or end of documents, table display improvements, and additional filters.

RPL/2 (Reverse Polish Lisp/2) is a langage derived from the RPL made by Hewlett-Packard for its HP-28S. It has some extensions (preprocessor, compilated libraries, new functions), a TeX output, and can draw graphics.

Release Notes: All users should upgrade, as signal management is rewritten from scratch. The same subsystem is now used in the Linux, MacOS X, and xBSD ports. The author has only tested RPL/2 on NetBSD, but it should run fine on FreeBSD and OpenBSD. This new signal management should fix all multitask issues on Cygwin. As Lesstif is broken, RPL/2 is now shipped with a patched OpenMotif library. The new intrinsic SREV has been added.

Release Notes: Exchanges has been completely reworked from a blog-like interface into a single-document interface. Entries are submitted as HTML, and are not screened for content, only for size. Use of pre-tags, next and prev links, a header index, and other minor elements have been removed. A bug in the packing script has been fixed so that the dot-files are now included.

flpsed is a WYSIWYG PostScript annotator. You can't actually edit existing documents, but you can add arbitrary text lines to existing documents. Added lines can later be re-edited with flpsed. Using pdftops, flpsed can import PDF documents and also add text to them. It is useful for filling in forms, adding notes, etc. In batch mode, it can be used to automate form filling.

Release Notes: flpsed is now based on fltk-1.3.x. PDF files are now detected by their headers instead of the file extension.
