No download Website 02 Oct 16:24 Arch Linux 2011.08.19

Screenshot

Arch Linux is an i686-optimized Linux distribution. It is lightweight and contains the latest stable versions of software. Packages are in .tar.gz format and are tracked by a package manager that is designed to allow easy package upgrades. Arch is quite streamlined compared to some other distributions. Things that are relatively unused are not kept (info pages, for example). A default Arch install leaves you with a solid base; from there, you can add packages to create the custom installation you're looking for. Arch has a package build system that allows you to easily create your own packages, which makes it very easy to rebuild a package with your own custom configuration. Arch also aims to use the newer features available to Linux users, such as reiserfs/ext3 and devfs.

Release Notes: This release has an update to the Arch installation media, as the last release (2010.05) is not only quite outdated, but now yields broken installations if you do a netinstall (because the old installer is not aware of the changed kernel/initramfs filename in the new Linux 3.0 packages).

No download Website 02 Oct 16:24 Fotoxx 11.10

Screenshot

Fotoxx navigates an image collection using a thumbnail browser to choose images to view or edit. Edit functions include brightness, contrast, color, gamma, white balance, tone mapping, red eyes, sharpen, blur, noise suppression, smart erase, trim (crop), resize, rotate, add text, bend/warp, many art effects, HDR, HDF, stack, and panorama. Edit functions use movable curves and sliders. Feedback is live using the whole image. RAW files can be edited and saved with deep color. Areas or objects can be selected using freehand draw, follow edge, and tone matching. Selections can be edited in place with adjustable blending. They can also be cut and pasted into other images. Any metadata can be edited, reported, and searched (filenames, tags, dates, geotags, comments, captions, ratings, etc.). Collections (arbitrary subsets) can be defined and viewed. Batch functions are available for rename, resize/export, RAW conversion, and more.

Release Notes: A classic gamma curve edit was added, and can be applied to the whole image or a selected area. A "slanted" image can be quickly straightened, e.g. a gallery picture photographed at an angle to avoid reflections. Slide Show can optionally show only the last version of each image. The spacebar can be used to pause and resume. Printing was revised to work better with recent changes in HPLIP ("paper mismatch" errors). If new files are found, offer to perform an incremental synchronization. Warns if overwriting an original (non-versioned) image (the warning can be turned off).
